Frequently Asked Questions

If your query is not answered below please contact us at sales at crossstitchphoto.com
(replace at with the correct symbol @, listed like this to reduce spam).

What Format do the patterns come in? Do I need extra software to print them?
The patterns are available in black and white symbol format or coloured symbol format in a PDF file. This is a very common file type, you need the free program Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the patterns. If you do not have this program you can download it for free
here
How do I pay for the pattern?
Once you are satisfied with the pattern and are ready to pay if you would prefer to pay online I will email an invoice for you to pay with a credit card online. If you would prefer not to pay online I will email an invoice for you to pay by fax or mail.
Can I complete the cross stitch and sell the finished product?
You can complete the cross stitch and sell the finished product, however you cannot sell the pattern to anyone else, the pattern is for your own personal use.
Can I get a cross stitch pattern done from a picture of Winnie the pooh, Mickey Mouse etc. ?
NO. The image you want converted must be your own image or you must have permission from a friend or family member to use it to make a pattern. You cannot just take any image off the internet and ask for it to be converted to a pattern as this is copyright infringement. If I am charged with copyright abuse for an image you have sent to me, claiming as your own, the copyright abuse will be passed onto you. We accept no liability for copyright infringement of these images.
What coloured Aida cloth or fabric should I use?
We generally suggest for most of our patterns to be done on white or cream coloured aida cloth or fabric. If you are an experienced stitcher, you can customize the pattern to suit yourself. You can substitute colours if you wish, especially if you have a pattern with the background removed. It would be best to use an Aida cloth with a colour that compliments the design, if you are unsure let me know and I can add the aida cloth colour in the background for you so you can see what it will look like.
Do you supply fabric or cottons or kits?
No. I only sell the patterns, I do not supply fabric or cottons. DMC cottons and Aida cloth can be found at any local craft store or there are lots of places online which sell them too.
How long will it take to get my pattern?
Within 3 days of placing an order I will send a preview image to you, if you are happy with the pattern and pay online I will email the pattern to you after payment. If you pay by mail it can take 10 days to reach me if you are outside Australia, once paid I will email the pattern to you. If you ask for the pattern to be printed and mailed to you, it can take 10 days to reach you if you are outside Australia.
I don't have a printer, can you print and send the pattern to me?
Yes we can print and post the pattern to you, there is an additional $10.00US charge to print and post the pattern to anywhere in the world.
Is a list of what DMC colours to use supplied?
Yes we supply a black and white symbol, or coloured symbol pattern, a full list of which DMC colour relates to which symbol, a picture of your preview image and a colour distribution chart which you can take with you to the craft store. It has how much cotton to buy and in the DMC cotton number order so it is easy to get your cottons.
How do I know how much fabric to use, and what count of fabric do I use?
Aida cloth comes in various stitch counts. 14 count is the most popular. 14 count means there is 14 stitches per inch of fabric. Other popular sizes are 16 and 18 count. One square is equal to one stitch on the pattern. Our patterns can be stitched on any size aida cloth. The higher the aida count the smaller the completed pattern will be but as the stitch count becomes higher it can make it more difficult to stitch especially if you have poor eyesight as the holes are not as defined.

To determine finished size, divide stitch count by Aida count or cloth you are using for e.g.100w x 100h stitches on 14 count would be 7"wide x 7"high. Times inches by 2.5 for cm. Also allow at least 3inches (7.5cm) around each side of your work to assist in framing. So if your pattern is 100w x 100h stitches and you are stitching on 14 count your would need to measure and cut a piece of aida 10" x 10" (25cm x 25cm) to complete your work. It is a good idea to purchase your cloth by the metre if you plan to do alot of patterns than you can just cut the aida to size for you patterns at home.
